The Wave

la vague Nathalie Wernimont

Upon me strikes the wave, chaos batters.
The cold wave and its ocean of blind indifference. I hear only a long tearing, see only through the distorting prism of ugliness, feel only the rigidity of my pain.
The wave twists me, crushes me, hollows my lungs and drags me down to the depths in a bewildering, dark whirlwind of fear.

Over me passes the wave, the deafening confusion rolls.
Disorder still scatters. The nervous and unpredictable current slips between my fingers. Eyes closed, I sense, I grow accustomed.
I penetrate the fluid, follow the ripples, explore this new element, I surrender.

Over me the wave has passed, now calm reigns, the undulations quieted. The current surrounds me, carries me and soothes me.
I am here, I am the water.
